The Halal Urban Bistro Aka The Hub

The Halal Urban Bistro Aka The Hub American restaurant

Overview

If you find yourself in Queens searching for a place where flavor, comfort, and community come together, The Halal Urban Bistro Aka The Hub on 235-20 Hillside Ave., NY is hard to miss. The location sits right in the heart of the neighborhood, making it an easy stop for locals looking for casual dining or friends gathering after work. What immediately stands out is how the menu bridges traditional halal cuisine with a modern twist, serving everything from juicy burgers to flavorful wraps, salads, and house specialties that feel both familiar and elevated. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s a spot people in Queens talk about when they want variety without losing authenticity.

Walking inside, the energy feels warm and lively, almost like stepping into a friend’s living room where the focus is on sharing food. Reviews often highlight how the staff greets everyone with genuine friendliness, adding to the sense of trustworthiness that regular diners value. A big part of its appeal lies in the thoughtful balance between quick-service options and dishes you’d happily sit down and savor. For example, families often mention how the kids can enjoy classic chicken tenders while adults go for seasoned lamb platters or their well-loved rice bowls. This range shows how the kitchen respects both taste and convenience.

From a broader perspective, halal dining has become a significant part of New York’s food culture, and places like The Hub reflect that growth. According to data from Statista, more than 4 million Muslims live in the United States, with New York being one of the top regions for halal food demand. That context adds weight to why this bistro thrives—it responds to a cultural need while also appealing to a wider audience curious about bold flavors. Experts in the food industry, such as the Halal Food Standards Alliance of America, emphasize the importance of certified halal preparation, and the Hub has earned trust by keeping those standards visible.

Still, no restaurant is perfect. Some diners note that peak hours can get crowded, which means wait times stretch longer than expected. But most agree the payoff is worth it. Whether you come for the variety on the menu, the central Queens location, or simply to see why the reviews carry so much buzz, the experience tends to leave people planning their next visit. It’s the kind of place that blends cultural authenticity with a neighborhood vibe, making it more than just another eatery on Hillside Avenue.

This place is consistently great! The spicy chicken smash burgers and loaded fries are always delicious, and the staff is kind and upfront about wait times. I’ve never left disappointed. The outdoor dining area is a great addition, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they set it up in the winter. So glad to have this spot in the neighborhood!

The hub is a great spot that never disappoints. We had loaded fries with chicken and smash burgers, and they were delicious with plenty of sauce. The worker told us they don't sell cans anymore due to the boycott, which was really considerate of them. He mentioned they're launching their own drinks soon, and he even gave us free water. Overall, it was a great experience, and we’ll definitely be back!

Tried The Hub for the first time and wow… the burgers are amazing. Super juicy, cooked perfectly, and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. The fries were crispy and actually had flavor, not just plain salt. The place itself has a really chill vibe. Definitely one of those spots you’ll keep coming back to whenever you’re craving a good burger.

Absolutely Incredible! I just ate at this burger spot and wow — I’m seriously impressed. The food was next level delicious. The burger was perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor, and the bun was soft but held everything together like a champ. The toppings were fresh and balanced just right — not overdone, just enough to make each bite amazing.

My husband introduced me to this joint, he stated it won’t disappoint. He was not wrong!! It’s got good portion size, has good flavor and is filling. I first tried their beef burger, I love how it’s so simple yet so satisfying that you could have another one. The patty stays in the bun so it doesn’t slip out like most burgers when you try to munch away! The loaded fries, now hold on a minute, it’s like eating a burger with fries in 1. The trick is to eat it there and then, in the car, whilst the fries are hot and so fresh and that’s one good thing about this place. They give you FRESH hot fries on the spot, so be careful don’t burn your mouth!!! Whilst waiting for my order last night, I would glance up from the car, randomly noticing people walking on this rainy evening. Where were they going you say? To go get some of this delicious foooooood! There is always a line my husband explains, always, regardless of what time you go, and that states that this place is the hottest one, it’s so close to my house (which is dangerously bad but so good!). You can tell that they put the love into food when mixing those flavors that you would devour. Yum yum nom nom!

Finally got a chance to give this place a try after all the social media hype. TLDR: it's not bad. Pros: The person taking the order was very friendly and patient. They're also very conscious of their business practices and highlight their solidarity with the victims in Gaza, which is a huge plus. I got the maple smash burger and it was very good. Beef, eggs and maple syrup sandwiched between a croissant. The sweetness of the maple syrup balances well with the savory beef patties. Fries were also crispy and they load up. Cons: Very long wait times, up to 35 min for a small order . This is expected considering their very short business hours. The first time we went, they actually sold out and closed early. Apparently you have to check their Instagram stories for updates. Please please PLEASE provide a call in number or an actual website so we can check status. Overall, definitely will return to try some of their other menu items.

Came here per recommendation of a family member. Have to say, very impressed with the service by Farukh (I believe that’s how you spell his name) when taking our order. We didn’t experience any long wait times or incorrect orders at all. We loved our food and will be back again.
